The push from buyers to see a Hussonet son emulate their father’s success in Australia is likely to carry over from the Inglis Premier to the upcoming Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling sale.
There are five sons of Hussonet among the first season sires represented in Adelaide namely El Cumbres, Host, Husson Lightning, Husson and Yarraman Park’s Trotamondo.
Swettenham Stud resident Host proved to be a popular stallion at Oaklands ending the Premier I session as the Leading First Season Sire by average.
Historic Mornmoot Stud in Victoria, home of the immortal Century, will introduce buyers to their own Hussonet son El Cumbres via two cols and and a filly at the Morphettville sales Complex in Adelaide on March 15 and 16.
El Cumbres was crowned the Champion 2YO colt in his native Chile claiming three Group One’s and winning from 1000 to 2000 metres.
“One of Hussonet’s sons are going to make it – and those of us who have a Hussonet stallion think we’ve got that horse,” Mornmoot Stud boss Robert Thompson said.
“There’s been so much interest in El Cumbres from breeders and from some pretty serious horse people who have inspected his yearlings.
“People who have an El Cumbres continue to tell us that they are committed to sending their mares to come back to him. It’s very early days but the breeders are telling us that they are consistently good types.”
Thompson has played host to a steady stream of trainers and owners at Mornmoot in the lead-up to Adelaide and the feeling he is getting from them is very positive.
“We have had on farm inspections – my business is more about selling off the farm than at sales – but I know of three trainers who have a very serious interest in the he Darkwood Beach colt (Lot 194),” he told us.
No wonder, given the colt is a out of a Sir Tristram daughter of the great Wrap Around, the dam of Fashions Afield and half sister to Rose Of Danehill.
Outside of the two El Cumbres, Mornmoot’s remaining three lots are by stud’s resident sires Happy Giggle (2 of them) and one by Fomalhaut.
“Lot 333 is a big, strong colt by Happy Giggle and has Asia written on his forehead,” Thompson said, “A pinhooker will pick him up for sure. I could have sold him from the farm but I thought he was worthy of sale ring presentation.”
“We know a fair bit about Happy Giggle’s stock and the big strong one’s are what the Asian market looking for in the Happy Giggle progeny.”
“And he’s got that bit of sexiness with Samantha Miss in his family – he’ll be well inspected.”
