Group One trainer Neville Parnham predicted a bright future for Shady Bet following his impressive win in the Westspeed Nursery Handicap (1100m) at Ascot today.
Well handled by apprentice Campbell McCallum, Shady Bet justified his race favouritism when he cruised home to beat Beguile by three parts of a length.
Debutant Bell’s Honour was third for Adam Durrant another three and a quarter lengths back.
Shady Bet was racing for just the second time. On debut he chased home subsequent stakes winner Bliss Street at Ascot on March 23.
On that occasion Bliss Street finished too well to win by a length and a half. That filly on Saturday won the Group Three WA Sires’ Produce Stakes for Dan Morton.
“I think he’s got a bit of a future the horse,” Parnham said of Shady Bet.
“He’s nice and relaxed type of horse – much in the mould of some of those good Bletchley Parks.”
“His first up run was great. His trials were good, but he’s really turned the corner since his trials – they have really switched him on.”
“He just keeps on improving and I think he’s got a nice future.”
“The race turned out just as we thought and we were able to get the run we wanted and he turned out to be too strong in the end.”
Shady Bet is raced by Colin Loxton’s Cockatoo Ridge Syndicate – the same clients who race stable stars Playing God and God Has Spoken.
Parnham took a shine to Shady Bet at last year’s Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale and went to $42,500 to buy him from the draft of Toreby Park.
He is the first runner for his dam – the lightly raced and three-year-old placed Mujahid mare Lady Yasmin.
Being a daughter of the stakes performed At Talaq mare Swift Falcon, Lady Yasmin is a half sister to stakes winner Pure Velocity and stakes placegetter Swift Jeune.
Further back the family also includes that of stakes winners Outpace, Maroc, Princess Plume, Batwing and Visual Displays.
