Schiffer booked a ticket north to contest the $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic next month with a brilliant on speed win at Randwick today.

An eye catching runner-up in the recent Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic behind the unbeaten speedster Karuta Queen, Schiffer showed great benefit from the run and she was able to break her maiden status in style.

Trainer Gerald Ryan said the filly, a $240,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase, had come on strong since her debut run and he is very much looking forward to Queensland’s richest race in three weeks time.

“She’s got really good speed,” Ryan pointed out. “That Karuta Queen who beat us the other day is very fast.”

“She’s always looked the kind of filly who will appreciate being able to sit off the speed – but from the gate we couldn’t afford to do that today.”

“She had the good gate speed today and we used that and then she showed great courage at the end.”

“She’s improved heaps from Wyong,” Ryan commented. “She’d had one jump out and one trial and she’s jumped out of the ground after Wyong.”

“I’m really happy with where she’s at. She’s eating up, she’s strong and hopefully get to the Gold Coast now in one piece and she’ll be thereabouts.”

“She’ll go straight to the Magic Millions. That was always the plan – to run at Wyong, run here today and go to the Magic Millions (Classic).”

A daughter of former top Magic Millions graduate Snitzel, Schiffer is a well bred youngster.

Her dam, the unraced Montjeu mare Modave, is a full sister to Group One Avondale Gold Cup winner Sharvasti and half sister to fellow group winners Bhandara and Shastri.

Schiffer’s second dam Vedodora won a Magic Millions Classic in New Zealand as well as a Hawke’s Bay Guineas.

Vedodara is a half sister to the former classy group winner Balmacara.

Meanwhile, Top Drop will join his stablemate Schiffer on a Magic Millions adventure after he led home a Magic Millions trifecta result in the last race on the Randwick card.

Gerald Ryan said the talented three-year-old had earned a crack at the $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions Guineas (1400m).

“He’s a great horse to train,” Ryan said. “He tries his little heart out every start.”

“He’ll go to the Gold Coast now and he’ll run a big race up there,” Ryan added.
