Promising youngster Hoofit will be set for the Group One NZ$1 million New Zealand 2000 Guineas in early November after a thrilling win in today’s listed Bonecrusher Stakes at Ellerslie.
The country’s feature three-year-old contest over 1600 metres at Riccarton is the main aim this preparation for the son of Mossman who carried the famous McKee colours to victory.
“He’s a big strong horse and he got better with racing last year,” a delighted Stephen McKee said.
“He had a tough run today – four and five wide so he should go on and make a nice horse.”
“There’s a million dollars sitting there for the taking – so provided he comes through this well we’ll probably go to the Wellington Guineas first and then Riccarton.”
The colt is one of two winners, from two runners, produced by the former quality racemare Chuckle.
A winner of the Dark Jewel Classic at Scone, Chuckle earned almost $400,000 during a career in which she won or ran second in no fewer than eight black type races.
A daughter of Danehill, Chuckle hails from the family of outstanding stakes winning gallopers including Reward for Effort, Catnipped, Consular, Jokers Wild, Life’s a Bounty, Sister Havana, Miss Prospect, Bleveeka, Full at Last and Swiss Rose.
Chuckle’s latest yearling, a lovely colt by leading New Zealand based sire Pins, will go under the hammer at January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The colt, by the same sire as El Segundo, Legs and Katie Lee, is being prepared by the Rheinwood Pastoral team.
As well an outstanding line up of yearlings by Hoofit’s sire Mossman will go under the hammer at the same auction.
The 2011 Magic Millions Yearling Sale will be held on Australia’s fabulous Gold Coast from January 12.
