Proven stakes winning filly Speedy Natalie will head toward the Group One Australasian Oaks at Morphettville following her dashing win at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Prepared at Caulfield by the red hot Peter Moody, Speedy Natalie was aided by a heady ride from Luke Nolen to skip clear of her rivals approaching the turn and set up a winning break.

Moody said the ride was the difference between winning and not.

“Credit where credit is due – the ride won the race,” he said. “He got around the favourite and pinched a break on her.”

“Her condition probably gave out a bit, second up over the 1500 (metres), but she got the coin today and there’s some nice improvement in her,” Moody added.

At the post Speedy Natalie ($3.50-$4.20) held a three quarter length margin over Aloha ($2.20-$2.50-$2.30 fav).

Another length and a quarter back in third place was Absolute Faith ($4.80-$5.50).

Speedy Natalie was purchased for just $70,000 from the 2008 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale. As it stands she’s already earned $94,000 from just five runs. Her value as a future breeding prospect is many times more.

“She won a stakes race at her first start in Adelaide and has had very little luck at her subsequent three or four runs.”

“It’s good to see her back in the winner’s list. I’m looking at getting her back to Adelaide in about a month’s time for that Australasian Oaks.”

“She’ll come back here for the mile Group Two in a couple of weeks and that leads nicely into the Oaks over 2000 (metres).”

Moody was also pleased with the effort of stablemate and fellow Magic Millions graduate Salinas – who made good late ground from the back of the field to run fifth.

“She got left sitting when they sprinted. She was very strong late and it was encouraging with her stepping up in distance.”

“She’ll probably head down the identical path (to Speedy Natalie). Her dam won the Australasian Oaks and hopefully lightning can strike twice.”

“That’s the way she’s been headed for the whole preparation – both fillies actually – and they will have to follow the same path,” Moody summed up.

Speedy Natalie, by promising Danehill sire Al Maher, is one of four winners, from four to race, for the stakes winning mare Speedy Bell.

A daughter of Brocco, Speedy Bell won the listed Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick as a juvenile. She was also third in a listed Heritage Stakes at Rosehill.

Speedy Bell is a half sister to three winners including the stakes winner Whoever and stakes placed Superforce.

Further back it is the same family as classy stakes winners Miss Kariba and Supersnack.
