After being robbed of a debut win at Gosford recently, Crossbar officially kicked away his career in style with a dazzling win in the Upstream ‘Print Less’ 2YO Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill today.

A beautifully related son of Redoute’s Choice, Crossbow led early and held that position until the home straight when he accelerated away from his rivals for an emphatic victory.

Crossbow, a dual trial winner at Warwick Farm, first “raced” at Gosford on June 23 and in what is best described as a farce, the youngster had his win revoked.

The $300,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase was the most affected in a patchy start and when it was discovered the gates opened without being activated by the starter stewards declared the event void.

Incredibly the false start system wasn’t alerted and riders, after their initial concerns, continued to race.

In what was an outstanding performance Crossbow game from last on the corner, weaved between runners and raced clear for a brilliant win.

This time around and with no starting bungles, Crossbow was able to get a clean getaway and the result was never in doubt.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse, who selected and purchased the youngster from the Grange Thoroughbreds draft at the Gold Coast, has always held a big opinion of Crossbow.

Assistant trainer Tania Rouse was pleased to see the blueblood score a deserved “debut” win.

“He did everything right,” Rouse noted. “And Blake (Spriggs) rode him beautifully.”

“Gai’s always had a big opinion of Crossbow and he looks to have a nice future,” she added.

Winning rider Dale Spriggs, son of gun NSW rider Dale, is riding in great form and the 18-year-old is hoping to be crowned Sydney’s champion apprentice nest season.

The Waterhouse stable is a fan of Spriggs and if he continues to ride in similar fashion there’s no doubt he’ll pick up more rides for Australia’s most famous horsewoman.

“He rode him cleverly in the front and the horse raced away well when he asked him to quicken,” an impressed Rouse noted.

By Redoute’s Choice, who at the end of this season is set to clinch the Champion Australia Sire title, Crossbow was the second lot offered and sold at last year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

His dam Rainbow Bubbles, a stakes winner in Melbourne and placegetter in the Coolmore Classic, is a full sister to the former Group One winner El Mirada.

El Mirada won seven races during his career, five at stakes level, and earned over $1.13 million.

Gayle’s Glance, the dam of El Mirada and Rainbow Bubbles, also produced the multiple Tasmanian stakes winner Castlegayle.
