A colt by Fastnet Rock has taken the early running at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale – selling to Hong Kong interests for $400,000.
A three quarter brother to recent Sydney stakes winner The Mikado, the colt was knocked down the bid of Chris McAnulty, son of well known bloodstock agent Rob McAnulty.
McAnulty Jnr said the colt would be broken in and head to Melbourne to be trained by the reigning Melbourne Cup winning trainer.
“He’ll head down to Mark Kavanagh,” McAnulty reported.
“He’s a big, strong sprinting type who hopefully might be able to come up here to Queensland at this time next year,” he added.
“We purchased him for a good Hong Kong client (Richard Hui),” McAnulty summed up.
Catalogued as lot number 1747, the bay colt is a member of the inaugural sale draft from Henry Field’s Newgate Farm at Scone.
Field has assembled an outstanding draft for his debut sale and the Fastnet Rock colt was one of the real stand outs.
As well as being a close relation to The Mikado, the top priced colt of the sale to date is a three quarter brother to the Hong Kong group performer Brilliant Chapter.
Their dam Lirico, a six time winner up to 1600 metres, is a daughter of the Thousand Guineas winner Princess Talaria and is closely related to quality gallopers Royal Purler, Mustard, Silver Flyer and Valuate.
