Fusakeo made it doubles all round when the talented middle distance performer romped to a five length win in the Waterloo Handicap (1800m) at Randwick today.
In notching a double for star trainer Gai Waterhouse and leading jockey Nash Rawiller, Fusakeo was also the second galloper to win on the card who’d been bred and sold by Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud.
Positioned at the head of the field throughout, Fusakeo ($4.40) darted clear in the straight and raced away for a five length win over the odds on favourite Patrician’s Glory ($1.60).
There was another five lengths back to Circle of Fame ($20) – who led in the remainder of the field.
Fusakeo, a well related gelded son of Fusaichi Pegasus, was purchased and syndicator by Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds for $140,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
As expected Martin was all smiles in the winner’s stall, flanked by a large team of owners she’d brought together to race Fusakeo.
She said any questions about the gelding running a strong 1800 metres were answered with a resounding yes.
“I guess there was a bit of a question mark because he hadn’t necessarily been finishing off some of his other races,” Martin said.
“But he got the nice, soft lead and Nash is such a master at rating these middle distance to staying sort of horses.”
“He’s done it a bit before with another one we know,” she added referring to Star’s champion galloper and fellow Gold Coast graduate Theseo.
The promising Fusakeo is now a four time winner and four time placegetter from just 13 starts and he’s earned over $114,000.
Fusakeo is one of three outstanding winners for the city winning Unbridled’s Song mare Miss Jakeo.
A daughter of the multiple Group One winner Lady Jakeo and half sister to international stakes winners Able Choice and Red Arrow, Miss Jakeo has produced the group winners Miss Judgement and Fifth Avenue Lady.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day the promising Lucky Owners filly Lucky Moment scored a stylish win in the Rosebery Plate (1300m).
A member of the Rod Craig stable, Lucky Moment ($9.50) cruised home tyo beat Time Has Come ($12) by a length.
Another length and a quarter back in third place was Shawnee Girl ($3.80).
Lucky Moment, a promising three-year-old, is another graduate of Baramul Stud and was purchased for $35,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
She is one of two winners produced by the Sydney winning Secret Savings mare Samar – a half sister to the triple Group One winner County Tyrone.
The team from Baramul Stud will be presenting an outstanding draft at January’s 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
But before then the team will be preparing a quality draft for the National Horses in Training Sale in October.
