Almost certain to be declared the Australian Horse of the Year for the 2015/16 racing season, Winx proved too good, getting to the line ahead of her stablemates Kermadec and Press Statement in a Chris Waller trifecta.

The win was the eighth straight group success for the daughter of Street Cry – now a five time Group One winner.

Her connections including Waller, rider Hugh Bowman and part owner Debbie Kepitis were all delighted with the latest victory – talking of their honour of being associated with such a galloper.

“That is very special,” Waller said. “Especially on a day like today – it’s my home track obviously and it means a lot.”

“It’s just so special, it feels very good,” Waller added.

“This is one of the best races in the country,” Bowman said. “It attracts such a great field every year – it’s a genuine world class Group One event.”

“She showed her dominance her this afternoon – it’s just an honour to be a part of it.”

“She really showed her dominance over the last 200 metres and it was just me and her and it was very sweet,” Bowman added.

“That is just one of the most exciting things that has ever happened on a racetrack,” a beaming part owner Debbie Kepitis said.

“That horse is phenomenal. I will happily call her a champion. I have a champion with two other great partners.”

“It’s just great for our family. It’s wonderful for all of the crowd who love her. It is just the best thing for racing it to have a horse who can do what she does,” Kepitis added.

Winx, bred by the Camilleri family’s Fairway Thoroughbreds, was sold to Magic Bloodstock for $230,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale through the draft of Coolmore Stud.

At it stands her outstanding record reads out at 12 wins and three second placings from just 18 starts and earnings of $4,746,925.

Winx will now most likely have her next start in the Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes as connections chase one of the country’s richest and mose prestigious races to add to a Cox Plate, Queensland Oaks, Chipping Norton Stakes, Epsom Handicap and George Ryder Stakes.

The glamour mare is the first runner from four named foals for the New Zealand stakes winning Al Akbar mare Vegas Showgirl.

Vegas Showgirl, who won seven races including two at two, won two listed events and was group placed prior to retiring to stud. She was sold at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, purchased by James Bester on behalf of the Camilleri family.

Also placed in a Sheraco Stakes in Sydney and fourth placed in a Group One Sires’ Produce Stakes at Manawatu, Vegas Showgirl is a half sister to the stakes performer Black Magic Maggie.
